How Long Does Rehab Take?

BY

Starting addiction treatment is an admirable endeavor and a great first step to healing. However, it comes with a lot of questions: how long will rehab take, what does treatment look like, and what results can you expect? There is no singular answer as of course everyone has their unique needs and challenges. However, here are some rough guidelines to give you an idea of what you can expect.

How Long Does Medical Detox Take?

Not everyone needs to detox — it depends on what substance you use and how used your body is to them. If you do go through the process, it can cause a number of uncomfortable side effects, such as sweating, elevated heartbeat, vomiting, nightmare, and anxiety. While it’s entirely possible to detox at home and many people do it, the process can be very uncomfortable and even dangerous if your addiction is quite severe. In these cases, we offer medical detox, which means that you undergo this process under medical supervision. The good news is it only lasts for several days.

How Much Time Does an Outpatient Program Take?

Different outpatient programs vary in length and intensity. For instance, we have our day treatment that’s typically 6 hours per day, 5 days a week. This is our most intensive program and we recommend it to most people who need our services. After our patients show signs of improvement, they often choose to opt for one of our less demanding programs. For instance, they may come in for treatments for 6 hours per week. Other patients choose to start with our less intensive options, either because they have other commitments or they don’t feel like they need a more full-on approach. In all cases, we firmly believe that addiction treatment can’t be rushed. It should take as long as the patient needs it to take and service providers shouldn’t be rigid with their timelines.
