What Are the Success Rates of IOP?

BY

The NIH National Institute on Drug Abuse puts the relapse rate for alcohol and drug treatment at 40–60%. This may seem grim but it’s comparable to other diseases such as diabetes and asthma. At Baystate Recovery Center, we believe in the power of Intensive outpatient programs(IOPs) to change lives. That’s why it’s an integral part of our continuum of care.

What Is the Success Rate of IOP Programs?

Research indicates that IOP programs are generally successful in 50 to 70% of cases. Studies show that this is a comparable success rate to inpatient and other treatment options when administered with rigor and outstanding care. The overall success rate of IOP programs is a difficult metric to pin down, especially since the quality of programs varies significantly.

At Baystate Recovery Center, we focus on maintaining a highly structured and effective program to increase the completion rate of our IOP program. We also require a significant amount of time in therapy to optimize the short timeframe of most IOP programs.

Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) allow clients to continue living at home while receiving treatment. This can improve the completion rate for those with family, work and school commitments that prevent them from participating in an inpatient program. It can also increase the desire to overcome addiction and achieve long-term sobriety.

When Are IOPs Most Beneficial?

IOPs for substance abuse provide educational and therapy sessions. Both individual and group sessions facilitate behavioral changes. Each individual receives a personalized treatment plan to help them recognize and prevent triggers and commit to overcoming their substance use disorder.

Baystate Recovery Center offers individual and groups sessions. By using behavioral therapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy as well as emphasizing nutrition, physical fitness and overall health, IOPs can increase the rate of successful transition back to independent living.

Additionally, IOPs often serve as a step-down program from residential treatment programs. By continuing care, clients receive reinforcement and continue their recovery journeys.

IOP Effectiveness and Success

At Baystate Recovery Center, we do everything we can to meet and exceed the 70% success rate touted by top facilities. Using science-based, proven talk therapies, we help guide clients toward ways to work through negative thoughts and feelings and avoid returning to substance abuse.

Our IOP has been refined over many years and we also offer aftercare and referral services for those who successfully complete their program. There are many factors to take into consideration when considering which program and facility best meet your needs. That’s why our admissions team takes the time to get to know each client and recommend the best care and treatment for them.

Therefore, we invite you to contact us about any questions you may have regarding our intensive outpatient treatment program and any other services offered at our facility in Massachusetts. Let us help you transition from substance use disorders to a more hopeful future!
